IJAW NATION STANDS AGAINST INJUSTICE IN RIVERS STATE

The escalating crisis in Rivers State is perceived as a direct assault on the Ijaw Nation. As representatives of the Egbama, Gbaramatu, Isaba, and Ogbe-Ijoh communities, we stand in solidarity with our Ijaw brothers in Rivers State. This situation is not an isolated political dispute but a broader attempt to suppress the voices of the Ijaw people in Nigeria.

A History of Systematic Oppression

Eight years ago, the Ijaw people witnessed the unceremonious removal of President Goodluck Jonathan from office. This marked the beginning of an era where the Ijaw Nation was relegated to political insignificance. Today, history is repeating itself, and we refuse to remain silent. The Ijaw Nation will no longer stand by while our rights are trampled upon.

A National Struggle, Not Just a State Crisis

This is more than a battle for Rivers State—it is a national struggle against the systemic oppression of the Ijaw people. The government continues to exploit our oil resources while denying us rightful representation in key leadership positions. Despite our land being the backbone of the nation’s economy, we remain marginalized. This injustice will no longer be tolerated.

A Call to Action: Defending Our Rights

We reject any attempt to erase the Ijaw people from positions of power. The government’s refusal to appoint an Ijaw person as Minister of Petroleum is a clear indication of their agenda to control our resources while excluding us from decision-making. The position of Minister of State for Petroleum is nothing but an insult to our people, reducing us to mere subordinates in an industry built on our land and sweat.

Ijaw Unity: The Path Forward

We call upon all Ijaws—those in Bomadi, Patani, Burutu, Ondo, Uvwie, Udu, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Lagos, and in the diaspora—to rise and join this movement. This is not a fight for a single community but a struggle for the survival and dignity of the entire Ijaw Nation.

The Ijaw people will stand together, resist oppression, and reclaim their rightful place in Nigeria. We will use every legitimate strategy at our disposal to ensure justice is served. The time for silence is over. Asawana, wana!
